Provocative artist Banksy has revealed a 20m high artwork in New York to draw attention to the imprisonment of Zehra Dogan, a Kurdish painter from Turkey.
His image of her behind bars depicts the last bar as a pencil, and next to the mural is a call for her release.
Dogan was jailed for two years and nine months last year in Turkey, for her painting of the Kurdish town Nusaybin. Her picture, copied from a newspaper photograph, showed the town reduced to rubble during conflict. The photograph was taken by government forces in the area where they had fought Kurdish militants. It features Turkish flags draped over destroyed buildings.
Dogan posted her watercolour painting to social media and was subsequently arrested and sentenced. Banksy’s mural, highlighting her first year in custody, has been painted on the historic Bowery Wall made famous by artist Keith Haring during the 80s.
The image was created with another artist, known as Borf, who has served time in prison for his graffiti. Dogan has yet to hear about the mural, according to Banksy’s publicist.
The jailed artist is said to share a cell with 40 inmates, receiving only periodic visits.
An image of her painting was projected above the artwork on the evening of 15 March.

Anonymous graffiti artist appeared to confirm he mural was his latest work by sharing a picture of it to his two million followers. ELUSIVE graffiti artist Banksy is behind a new artwork on a drawbridge in Hull – but locals are calling for it to be wiped clean. The anonymous artist confirmed in an Instagram post the mural was his latest work by sharing a picture of it to his two million followers. It shows a young boy wearing a helmet and cape alongside the words: “Draw the raised bridge”. Stunned locals first spotted the artwork, which is believed to hold an anti-Brexit message, on Thursday. But councillors are calling for the mural to be cleaned off – although they admit it is “mindbogglingly brilliant”. Hull Cllr. John Abbott said: “It should be cleaned off and then photographed and kept, as Banksy is not a man without talent.”

Trying my hand at still life
Trying my hand at still life.
I have spent a couple of months trying my hand at still life, a little challenge for myself to see what I can achieve. I have lost count of the number of attempts that have ended up in the bin…… I am very pleased with the outcome of my artwork maybe it will be something I revisit in the future.

Art for Sale.
Welcome to my first website.
I am inspired by the nature around me, from flourishing meadows to the crashing waves in the ocean.
However I do like to add my own abstract twist on things. I do love to work freely with abstract using colours and textures to guide me.
For me Art is a necessity, I need to paint. The colours and images that swirl round my head daily I capture on canvas. When I am not working as a part time book keeper, I can be found hidden away in my studio creating original bold artworks. I set out on my artists adventure in Feb 2014 in that time I have been able to purchase my own studio, I now have a little sanctuary in my back garden. My long term goal is to become a full time artist, With each painting I sell I take a step closer to achieving my goal.
